Kathryn Shepard
It all began in 1946, when Kathryn Shepard, under the direction of Lella Holly, at the old Sharon Church, began working with the Pathfinders. That was just the beginning. Later, what was first known as Progress Classwork held every Friday at Old Sharon by Sr. Devolia Cantrell, evolved into the Adventurer Club. Sr. Shepard was one of the first Adventurer directors at Ecorse SDA Church. It was in the late 60s that Sr. Shepard became a Master Guide. Two generations of Master Guides have followed Kathryn, beginning with her daughters, Gayle Kimmey, Loretta Thomas, and Shirley Fuquay and son-in-law Richard Kimmey. Her granddaughter, Daphne Springer, was invested as a Master Guide at the 2004 NAD Faith on Fire Camporee in Oshkosh, WI and is currently serving as the Lake Region Conference Motor City Area Pathfinder Coordinator. Finally, her great-granddaughters, Elyse and Gayle Springer, were members of the Inkster Wolverine Pathinder Club. Gayle is now a TLT and drum corps member at the Conant Cougars Pathfinder Club in Detroit, Michigan.  At 95 years young, Sr. Shepard is still an active Master Guide and inspiring people of all ages.
